A truly unique wedding experience avoids the typical matchy-matchy nature of wedding décor. Choose more than 2 colors, and opt for more interesting textures than just satin or lace. We live in a time when anything goes… so choose anything! Lindsey and Jack chose a fairly trendy concept: a rustic barn location. But they made it more interesting than your basic “Country Chic” affair with multi-colored floral arrangements, vintage mismatchy linens and plates, and, most interestingly, a grizzly bear skin. A bear skin is a sure-fire way to add some texture and memorability to the design concept! Be sure to add those little “pops” that scream out your style. Not every bride is perfectly color-coordinated or falls into a typical style category. I’ll make sure your custom-styled event fits YOU.
“Set the table!” Easy for every day; not so easy for a party or reception. A beautiful table setting is about more than just plates and glasses. One must balance colors, height, shapes, and textures to achieve a look that is thoughtful without appearing random or messy. My hospitality and bridal clients know my eye for table design is one of my greatest strengths as an event planner. Many of my designs include intricately perfected setups that include a variety of greenery, color, glassware, patterns, and textures to create a themed and customized look for each event. I’m all about more than the basic centerpiece… no bride of mine will have a basic wedding! The beautiful table setting shots you see on Instagram and Pinterest take a little more than just the supplies. Experience, practice, and an eye for balance are crucial! See my settings in action in my Shannon Says series on YouTube or view some of my favorite shots below.
Keeping with our holiday theme this week, let’s discuss a few great holiday design color combinations. There are more options than just red and green! I love my holiday décor to have pops of gold, blue, and even a fuchsia can be worked into the mix! Don’t fear a pop of brightly colored accents will take away from the festive look!
As we get closer and closer to December, I'm starting to gear up for my festive decorations and every year I want to try something bolder than the typical red and green. The traditional deep green paired with classic red can really get some oomph with a modern shade of blue or even metallics like copper, silver and gold... One thing is for sure, everyone has their own idea of what colors put them into the holiday spirit. The Perfect Palette has some great swatches that might make you holiday decorators question everything you thought about Christmas decorations!
Even if you're throwing a last minute get-together, setting the mood with fabulous décor doesn’t have to be stressful (or cost a fortune!). I’m here to show you how to deck your halls! Last year I coordinated a client’s festive holiday soiree complete with glitz and glitter. Check out the gallery below to see how I turned a living room into a beautiful holiday party venue. But my basic styling advice would be these three words: ribbon, glitter, and linens. Any room can be transformed into a festive wonderland with a trip to a craft store. Jazzing up the scene with luxurious fabrics, vintage glassware tied with ribbons, and glittery accents will take any party to the next level. Think simple: tablecloths and runners, vases with shiny ball ornaments, and some evergreen pieces are necessary. And ALL of these items can be purchased rather inexpensively. Wow your crowd with a beautiful backdrop for what is sure to be your best holiday party yet.
