What is an olfactory memory? It’s one of the strongest memories the brain can have… memories associated to SMELLS! That means the BEST way to remember your wedding day is by creating an olfactory memory with something pleasant like perfume. A memory like this is actually better than visual reminders (like photos) because rather than seeing your day from the perspective of a photographer, the memorable smell will bring you back to your own experience that no photos or videos can match. So how should you go about choosing the smell for creating a vivid, lasting memory?

It’s not always easy pleasing everyone’s cake palette. Some people only like chocolate. Some people hate coconut. Kids don’t usually like lemon… AHH! When limited to one or two flavors for the cake tiers, a crowd-pleasing bride may find herself pulling her hair out. Consider ice cream cups instead of cake! You can order good ol’ flavors like vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry to satisfy your crowd, rather than face the hassle of cutting and serving several cakes. And hey, while your guests are in town they might as well try the famous St. Louis custard from Ted Drewes! A St. Louis bride has to show off her city’s flair! Ted Drewes’ can deep-freeze their cups so they’re hard as rocks when they arrive at your venue, and are the perfect spooning temperature when you’re ready to serve. Easy! And don’t forget a stylish topping bar!

I had a bride in June that totally branded her wedding day with #BestDayEver. #BestDayEver travel bus, #BestDayEver ribbons, #BestDayEver monogrammed napkins… but why? What’s the point of a wedding hashtag?
Back in the ol’ days, people passed out disposable cameras to get their guests involved in the action to capture candid and silly moments. Nowadays, “disposable cameras” seem weird, and practically retro. Most of your guests will probably have a smartphone and Instagram or Facebook, so tagging their phone pics with your #WeddingHashtag will make them easy to find and save later. Heck, Instagram will basically keep them as an album. Just search your tag and they’ll be there forever and always. But before you get too attached to your tag, remember a few things:

One of my recent Panache & Promises brides surprised us all with unusual cake toppers… bobble heads! Because seriously, when will you ever look at your traditional cake topper again? Any old topper will probably sit in a box in the basement. Instead, you can stare at each other’s cheesy grins in the car, on the mantle, on your desk at work… so cute! I love items that can be repurposed and cherished, so these custom bobble heads are a new MUST for every bride!
I did a little research and found a great custom bobble head company (with a very memorable name) called Whoopass Enterprises. They can create your bobble heads from photos and then ship ‘em on out to you. Easy and definitely unique! Don’t just say “I do,” nod your bobble head “YES!”

No one wants to feel lost. When entering your reception venue and seeing a sea of tables, your guests may feel a little overwhelmed (or annoyed) when they can’t find their seat. Help them out! Table numbers aren’t an afterthought; they are crucial for an organized reception.
Give them a head start. Have a little map board at the entrance of your venue that gives a simple layout of the tables so they know which direction to head. You wouldn’t be able to get through the mall without a directory, or Six Flags without a map, right? A map is key! (Pun intended!)
Make sure the table numbers face the entrance. It will be tempting to place the numbers in coordination with the table décor, but don’t make your tables a game of I Spy. Make the numbers easy to see and glance at.
Make the signs with a simple font that is easy to read. Yes, script fonts look SO pretty but your guests will struggle with figuring out “is that a 2 or a 3?” Don’t make it harder than it should be.
Get ELEVATED! If possible, put the numbers HIGH up in the décor so they will be easier to spot. My post about balloons a while back showed a reception with balloon numbers. You don’t need to take to those heights, but it wouldn’t hurt!
Pinterest is full of crafty table number ideas, and using cute frames seems to be the most popular. Just remember: visibility visibility visibility! Whatever you can do to make them more obvious, do it!
This Panache & Promises wedding falls into the "Dressy Casual" category. The beautiful photos are from Carretto Studios Photography.
Black tie, casual, semi-formal… what does it all mean? I have the cheat sheet for guests to decipher the wedding invitation.
WHITE TIE: This is the fanciest of all the categories. A white tie event could be the Oscars or dinner with the Queen. Most people are not lucky enough to be invited to a party this lavish, unfortunately.
BLACK TIE: A black tie wedding is a fancy, evening affair much like Prom at those fancy California high schools you only see on TV.
FORMAL OR BLACK-TIE OPTIONAL: Most weddings fall into this category. A formal wedding doesn’t require a tux, but you could wear one if you’d like.
BEACH FORMAL: Despite the word “formal,” a beach formal wedding requires an outfit similar to what you’d wear to a fancy restaurant in the summer with some sandals.
SEMI FORMAL OR DRESSY CASUAL: This one is tricky. A wedding in this category is in the gray area between formal and casual. Stick to dark colors for an evening wedding and light colors for a day wedding.
CASUAL: This does NOT mean, “anything goes!” Leave your cargo shorts and flip-flops at home. Assume casual means BUSINESS CASUAL, not Saturday-at-the-zoo casual.
Afterthought: Men can rent suits and tuxedos and women are stuck buying their dress, right? WRONG! This is a good time to become familiar with Rent the Runway if you aren’t already. You can rent a designer dress from $30 to $150 that will look and feel fabulous without the hefty price. Just a thought! It’s a great option, especially if you’re asked to a very formal event. Strut your stuff!
Here’s why smaller holidays work:
Here’s why bigger holidays don’t work:
There you have it, folks. The nitty-gritty of it is that people won’t love if you have a wedding on a big holiday. Be considerate of your guests if you want people to come. Would you rather have a Christmas wedding or a wedding with ALL of your friends and family? Stick to a smaller holiday or just a regular ol’ weekend to accommodate them. And if you’re ever questioning your big day plans, call a wedding connoisseur like myself! I have your answers!

The hottest wedding designs are earthy with vintage touches. We are especially crazy about “Mid Century Modern” pieces right now! These pieces are from (or based on designs from) the early 1930s to around 1965. The style uses less formal design and simpler, more organic shapes. I think this style has really sprung back into popularity because the trends now are quite similar: causal and clean! Brides in particular are drifting away from the big, glitzy weddings and heading towards the earthy styles.
This stylized shoot with Cami Wade incorporated some CUTE vintage chairs. This scoop chair was pretty iconic for the time and combined with the natural wood accents, we have a sweet earthy event room! The pop of ocean blue paired well with the gray chair backs and the greenery added our natural touch. And I spy some vintage glassware!
Vintage pieces like this aren’t as hard to find as you may think. Local shops like South Jefferson Mid Century Modern is one of the few mid century-specific thrift stores across the country. They have some beautiful pieces that will take your design to the next (authentic!) level. And their Instagram page will really suck you in… I’m obsessed. They have some really funky stuff! Be sure to check them out; their authentic vintage pieces are perfect for an earthy concept like this!
